Staying Home for SE Texas

Doing Our Part BCP Suspends Remaining Season Programming

April 1, 2020, Beaumont, Texas- Due to the current national health emergency Beaumont Community Players (BCP) will suspend the final two shows of our 2019-2020 season. The productions of Godspell and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang slated for April and May will be rescheduled for future performances. KIDmunity, our popular summer program will operate as scheduled with audition details to be announced in May on our BCP website and through social media.  Those holding tickets for any canceled performance or flex passes will be given credit for unused seats in our upcoming 2020-2021 programming or receive a tax donation credit. We ask for your patience as we contact those patrons directly and since we are out of the office inquiries can be made at tixbcp@gmail.com.

In these difficult times, BCP will continue to be a leader in our SE Texas community. Even before shutting our doors early in March, our staff was taking precautions to protect our patrons. Since that time the only activity in the Betty Greenberg Center has been increased weekly cleaning and our facility will be ready to open our doors when the time is appropriate.

Like all nonprofits and small businesses during this crisis, BCP is trying to find our way while experiencing a total loss of revenue. We want to assure our BCP family that we will be here and ready for you to join us when it is safe to do so. We are keeping our small staff on salary and teleworking when possible doing our part by staying home. We are in contact with our financial partners, our local Chamber of Commerce, local, state and federal agencies. Assistance programs are being finalized and we have solid long term financial planning-we are going to be fine.

Unfortunately, there are many that will struggle through this crisis so BCP is encouraging our patrons to support the SE Texas Food Bank https://setxfoodbank.org and the One Fair Wage Emergency Fund https://ofwemergencyfund.org. These organizations provide meals and assistance to some of the most adversely impacted members of our community that may not have the resources we are lucky enough to have.  When the time comes BCP will resume our normal fundraising efforts but for now, our focus is on those most in need.

We are not being idle as we work from home; we are planning for a great KIDmunity summer and next year’s season, we are reading plays for our New Play Festival in August and our costume brigade are making protective masks for the heroes working every day to keep us safe. We encourage all of our BCP family to follow our example and stay home if you can and practice social distancing if you can’t. The theatre traditionally brings people together and even in these unprecedented times, even apart we will continue to celebrate that human connection. Stay safe, stay home we will see you soon.
