GYPSY |
 |
Director: Paula Bothe
September 9, 10, 16, 17*, 17, 22, 23, 24, 2011
McFaddin
Ward Theatre
The tale of
vaudeville's decline and a domineering stage
mother's inadvertent creation of a burlesque
stripper (suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose
Lee), Gypsy includes such standards as "Let Me
Entertain You", "Everything's Coming Up Roses" and
"You Gotta Have A Gimmick." Often called "the best
book in musicals", this "musical fable" includes
laughter, romance, and the emotional
conflict between a woman and her daughters. |

Vastly
entertaining and remarkably fresh, this
life-affirming version of "A Christmas Carol," along
with many of its songs, will stay with viewers long
after the final credits have rolled. For me,
"Scrooge" has become a treasured Christmas tradition
alongside so many other beloved yuletime favorites. |

Almost, Maine
explores the mysteries of the human heart in this delightful
comedy. On a Friday night in the middle of winter, residents
of a small, mythical town in far northern Maine are falling
in and out of love at an alarming rate. Knees are getting
bruised; hearts are getting broken...but the bruises heal
and hearts mend - almost - in what has been described as a
"charming midwinter night's dream." Almost, Maine will leave
you spent from laughter and thoroughly warmed from the
inside out. |

Loveable
plus-size heroine, Tracy Turnblad, has a passion for
dancing, and wins a spot on the local TV dance
program, "The Corny Collins Show." Overnight she
finds herself transformed from outsider to teen
celebrity. Can a larger-than-life adolescent manage
to vanquish the program's reigning princess,
integrate the television show, and find true love
(singing and dancing all the while, of course!)
without mussing her hair?

A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE |
 |
Director: Gina Hinson
April 13, 14, 20, 21*, 21, 26, 27, 28, 2012
Studio Theatre

As he
did with his classic drama Death of a Salesman,
playwright Arthur Miller shows us that an ordinary
man's life can be the stuff of great tragedy in A
View From the Bridge. The drama is about Eddie, a
working class Brooklyn man who has built a nice life
for himself and his family. He is a hard-working man
of integrity whose loyalty to family compels him to
take in both some immigrant cousins and his niece.
However, it is that act of generosity that
eventually leads to Eddie's undoing. |

THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE |
 |
Director: Allan Anderud
May 11, 12*, 12, 17, 18, 19, 25, 26, 2012
McFaddin Ward Th eatre
Wacky,
irreverent and as entertaining today as it was when
it first opened in 1879, “The Pirates Of Penzance”
spins a hilarious farce of sentimental pirates,
bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers,
dewy-eyed daughters and an eccentric Major-General,
all morally bound to the often-ridiculous dictates
of honor and duty. A classic Gilbert and Sullivan
comic opera!
